Utah Common Ground Logo

Utah Common Ground is a project led by a coalition of nonprofit organizations, including AEGIX, Braver Angels, Center for Anticipatory Intelligence, Engage Forum, and Mormon Women for Ethical Government. The coalition is focused on helping citizens come together across political differences to make change in their communities. Utah Common Ground’s goal is to facilitate solution-focused dialogue that results in informed, connected, and empowered citizenry, promoting and securing policy that enables our shared society and economy to thrive.

Utah Common Ground is nonpartisan and welcomes Utahns of all backgrounds and beliefs. Our work is built on learnings and innovation from many ideologically diverse organizations that are bridging divides across the country as part of the Listen First Coalition. Utah Common Ground is also partnering with the Bloom Project, a national initiative working to build civic infrastructure that promotes local problem-solving.

About the Process

We invite all Utahns to share what matters most to them about the future of AI and its impact on communities across the state. Participation is open to anyone. People can share text-based input online or join small group conversations hosted by local partners, which will take place both online and in person. Over several weeks, the process will surface concerns, tensions, and opportunities for deeper discussion, as well as areas where additional information could help promote understanding and analysis.

After this period of broad public input, a representative group of approximately 30 to 50 residents from three counties (Cache, Salt Lake, and Utah Counties) will be invited to convene in person in August and September 2026 for solutions forums in each county.

Together, participants will:

  • Review what the broader community shared.

  • Hear from people representing differing viewpoints.

  • Examine trade-offs and real-world constraints.

  • Work toward solutions that could realistically move forward.

Participants will then identify the most popular action items or solutions and discuss how to advance recommendations that attract super-majority agreement. Next steps could include working with local institutions or city or county officials, engaging state representatives if state policy changes are needed, or organizing community-led efforts to secure recommended actions. Process notes and results will be publicly documented and accessible online.
